Hope he can keep Punjab border safe, do needful for farmers: Amarinder Singh's message to Charanjit Channi

Captain Amarinder Singh said Channi will be able to keep Punjab safe from terror threat from Pakistan and hand over job letters to the kin of 150 farmers who lost their lives in stir against Centre's farm laws.

New Delhi: Outgoing Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday took a veiled dig at the CM-designate, saying he hopes Charanjit Singh Channi can keep the Punjab border safe, all while extending his congratulations.

"My best wishes to Charanjit Singh Channi. I hope he’s able to keep the border state of Punjab safe and protect our people from the growing security threat from across the border," Singh tweeted while referring to Pakistan.

He also said expressed remorse at not being able to hand over job letters to the kin of 150 farmers who died in the farm law agitation, while hoping Channi will do the needful at the earliest.

Captain's media advisor also tweeted his message: "Sad at not being able to personally hand over job letters to kin of 150 farmers who had lost their lives in stir against farm laws. Hope CM-designate Charanjit S Channi will do the needful at earliest. I continue to stand with farmers in fight for justice."

The 79-year-old Amarinder Singh, one of the Congress' powerful regional satraps, resigned on Saturday after speaking to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and shortly before a crucial meeting of the Congress Leguslature Party.
